Your domain name

Let people know about you

A really cool and fun thing to do is to register your name as a domain name.

Everyone has a Facebook account and or Twitter account, but how cool would it be to have your very own website or blog in your own name or nickname.

Use the search boxes on this page to see if your name is available and make sure you register it before someone else does.

Once you have your own domain name, you can set up a blog with WordPress and let the world know what you’re up to.

With a WordPress blog, you can create your own articles with text, pictures and  videos. You’ll need a hosting account once you have bought your domain name for this, but nowadays there are some really cheap and good options out there. Check out our guide to installing WordPress to get your blog up and running.

WordPress once installed, is very user friendly – it’s a bit like using a word processor or editing a document in Word. Once you are happy with your finished article, you simply click on the “Publish” button and your document is published on the internet and available for the world to see.

If you prefer to take your time publishing an article, you may opt to put your document together in a text editor like Word and then simply copy and paste it into your WordPress website when you are ready.

One of the great things about blogging is that you can easily update articles that you have previously posted – add some new images, update some news, change some text, move things around a little.

Blogging is also a great way of getting information out onto the web quickly and keeping your readers up to date – this can be useful if you’re running or thinking of starting your own business.

Another great thing about blogging is that people who read and like your blog can subscribe to it. You can email your blog subscribers to let them know of new posts that maybe of interested to them and of course if you are a business, you can let them know of your new items or services for sale. Simply place a link, known as a hyperlink, in the email to your subscribers, which will take them to the page that you want.

You can also point to your new articles on sites like Facebook to let all your friends know that you have posted a new article.

One tip here though – keep your content good. Content that is useful and informative will attract readers and hopefully links.

We hope that you found this post useful too – have a great day and don’t forget to check our domain name search tool

Domain Name Guide

Good Blog NamesA great way of promoting your business, new start up, or personal website is to create a blog.

So what is a blog?

For those of you who are not internet savvy, a blog is a website where you simply post your views, pictures, memoirs, thoughts, ideas – more or less anything you want.

A blog is a great way of getting internet traffic or an audience so that you can either sell to them if you run a business, or simply pass on ideas.
Having your own blog can also be therapeutic. It is a place where you can simply write down your thoughts and publish them – be careful though.

It may not be a good idea to publish when you will be going away on holiday etc. Common sense is the way to go.

Most of us are members of social media websites now like facebook etc, so a blog can be a cool way of extending your web persona.

Facebook currently also lets you link to a site of your own by creating a fan page, so you can link your facebook page to your blog and show all your friends your new blog.

So what makes a good blog name?

Generally short and memorable is the way to go here, but how about using your own name ie bertiebrooster.com or maybe bertsblog.com.
You really want to keep the name simple and to the point. Remember if you tell someone about your blog, you want them to remember it and be able to find it on the net.

Try to avoid hyphens and numbers. Imagine in our example of Bertie telling a friend about his cool new blog and the friend asks for the domain name of which is “bertie-brooster3.com” – nobody is going to remember that.
Try and buy the .com version of the name – that currently is the number one domain extension and is easily remembered.

If you can afford it, buy as many of the same name extensions as well ie bertiebrooster.net, bertiebrooster.co.uk etc. This stops other internet users from buying these names and copying your idea.
Be creative and think outside the box. Often the most memorable domain names are really unusual and humorous such as Go Daddy, Google, Yahoo etc
